Artist Statement

With paint, collage, and drawing, I create images that reflect my interest in the search for the nature of reality. My intent is in giving a poetic interpretation to the new levels which seem to create the forms of our world as revealed in physics over the last century and a half. Especially interesting to me are the physicists who look at the intersection between the level of matter and the subatomic level of potentiality which supports the world as we experience it. I am also drawn to the more philosophically or theoretically driven physicists such as David Bohm and his student John Archibald Wheeler.

Equally important are parallels drawn from the perennial philosophies to current science. Today our language includes references to consciousness and energy and we talk easily about the "vibes” we pick up from people and events even as we move through a world that is revealed to us through our senses only as form. In this work, my interpretations are of symbols and theories based in physics as well as images of the beauty of the higher altitudes of the material world. The connections between these alternate views of reality seem most to correspond to my understanding of the nature of our total reality.

My images are an attempt to relate the material world with what others have called the “field.” This is a name which includes both the quantum level of reality as well as the reality we have accepted based on form, space and time. It is the magical world in which we live daily where the seen and the unseen are joined in some way not yet clear to us, but which we glimpse or intuit on occasions of clarity.
